081 – Iceberg

This exercise works best when thinking about a character, rather than exploring overly personal reflections.

  1. Show an image of an iceberg. Discuss its features –  we don’t see all of the iceberg at once, only the tip.
  2. Explore why this is a helpful image when thinking about people and their characters.
  3. On a big piece of paper identify what may be above/below the surface.
  4. Discuss what stops certain aspects being seen/understood.

Notes: This could be extended into a longer creative writing task using prompts, e.g. ‘What you might not know about X is…’, ‘If you get to know X you’ll know…’
