- Introduce the 10 Stages of Genocide.
- Discuss: Can you think of any examples of genocide/individual Stages? Are any of the Stages present in your country/area/town? How do the Stages relate to everyday life?
- Bring in different newspapers with a range of viewpoints and choose articles that can be associated with each Stage.
- Are there any articles that belong to more than one Stage? What do the Stages entail? How can they be identified? Can they be interrupted? Is the group surprised by any of their findings? Why?
Notes: It is possible that not all the Stages would be identified in the newspapers (like Persecution and Extermination). The earlier Stages are more predominant (like Discrimination, Dehumanization, Symbolization).
